Guthrie, a 65-year-old associate professor who teaches photography in the university's Department of Art and Art History, often photographs naked women, and sometimes men, and occasionally puts himself in the picture, The Detroit News reported Wednesday. At least in the past,www.stivali-it.com, some of his subjects were students, although university officials say he no longer uses current students as models. Laurie Merrihew of Brooklyn, Mich.,stivali timberland, mother of an MSU student, says Guthrie is exploiting students. "This man has breached the bounds of the student-professor relationship," said Merrihew. "His pictures are sexually motivated and they are taking advantage of the students. There are several with totally nude girls that he's holding … and touching. To think that he is participating in this and not thinking: 'What good luck I have to be able to do this and get away with this.'" Henry Brimmer, a colleague at MSU, disagrees.. "His work is gorgeous, it is beautiful, it is well done, it has significance," said Brimmer. "I am not trying to be a snob. But if you come from any of the coasts or if you have an education in art … you wouldn't even think twice about it."
