My Political Science professor gave us an essay writing assignment yesterday. He said that we should submit college essays regarding our thoughts about the latest news involving the two Korean nations.
Apparently, the South Korean government recently launched an internet television channel for the young people of South Korea. Its aim is to educate their minds for the possible effects of reunification with North Korea.
To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if people from South Korea aren't excited with the prospect of reunification with North Korea. First, because most of the people nowadays weren't born yet when the separation happened. Second, because they will have to pay for the so-called reunification tax—which aims to fund the said cause. As we all know, people in North Korea are suffering from poverty and starvation, thanks to their selfish dictator, Kim Jong-il. Reuniting the two Korean countries would add a burden to South Korean people, since the reunification tax will have to come from their own pockets. I'm not saying that it's a bad idea—I'm just saying that this reunification might hurt South Korea. South Korea already has their own poor people to look after; what more if they also have to be responsible for their North Korean brothers?
