If you have to deal with high levels of external sound on a regular basis then the ANC headphones are the ones for you, they do cost more but will be worth every penny.

Both types of noise suppression headphones can cancel or block a lot of external sounds but not all. There is no way to stop it completely; it’s just a case of finding the rights ones for your needs.
