Samsung Look to Android for the future
Samsung had more than just the Galaxy Tab to shout about as Head of Product Planning,mobile phones mobile phones, HP Wong revealed during a Q&A session at the event that the company’s next generation of tablets will operate on Honeycomb – the Android follow up to Gingerbread – and will be hitting the market in 2011. Wong revealed that Honeycomb, which is believed to be only for tablets, won’t appear on the Galaxy Tab but will be used on future products. It might rain on the newly released Tab’s parade slightly, but it does mean that we’ve got even more Samsung tablets to get excited about next year.
Toshiba’s offering to the tablet world, the Folio 100 stepped up to share some of that crowded tab spotlight. The Toshiba Folio 100 is slightly bigger than its Samsung rival with a 10.1 inch capacitive touchscreen and sports Wi-Fi, Flash 10.1 support, Nivida Tegra 2 dual core processor, 3.1megapixel webcam,wifi mobile phone wifi mobile phone, 16GB of internal memory and comes with a £329 price tag. Some feel that the lack of 3G connectivity may hamper the tablet’s chances in the market, but with several features on board that the iPad lacks, it might still be up there with the big boys when released.

A revealing shot of LG’s tablet, the Optimus Pad was snapped during a pre-IFA show which sparked rumours that the manufacturer would be joining the likes of Samsung and Toshiba by officially announcing their Android tablet at the main event. IFA was certainly awash with tablets this year and ViewSonic added their ViewPad 100 to the rapidly growing ‘officially announced’ list on the Friday morning. The 10 inch tablet’s biggest selling point is that it dual-boots Android 1.6 and Windows 7 Home Premium meaning “users will have the speed and portability of an Android OS without sacrificing the power and compatibility of a Windows powered system” as explained by the manufacturer. The ViewPad also sports a 1024 x 600 screen resolution,long standby phone long standby phone, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth,slide cell phone slide cell phone, 1.3 megapixel webcam and runs on a 1.66GHz Atom N455 processor. If you’re not convinced by ViewSonic’s offering to the tablet table, then it’s a good job that they had another one at their stand too…

The manufacturer made the device official via a press release ahead of the event but it still came out to play. The ViewPad 7, unlike its sibling, has full phone functionality, rear and front facing cameras (3 megapixel and VGA respectively), a 600MHz Snapdragon processor, Wi-Fi, 3G, A-GPS, Bluetooth, access to the Android Market and is due to hit the market in October at “no more than £350.” Looks like the tablet competition is definitely heating up!
So this year’s IFA gathering in Berlin has been and gone, but it has left some of the biggest news stories of the quarter behind. Here’s a round up of what you may have missed.
The Korean manufacturer was the star of this year’s event hitting headlines for multiple reasons, and it wasn’t just about tablets. During an interview with Reuters, Head of Marketing at Samsung Mobile, YH Lee revealed that the company will be “prioritising the Android platform” due to consumer demands for the Google OS. This may have been a kick in the teeth for Microsoft, but Lee didn’t crush the company’s Windows Phone 7 dreams completely and confirmed that a handset sporting the upcoming platform will be arriving later this year.

IFA did have some phones thrown into the mix too, as the newly announced second bada handset,mobile phone gps mobile phone gps, the Samsung Wave 723 was on show at IFA. The manufacturer told Reuters that they will continue to use the OS and are releasing more bada phones in the coming quarters. The Wave 723 sports a 3.2 inch touchscreen with 400 x 200 resolution display, 5 megapixel camera,dual camera phones dual camera phones, 3G, Wi-Fi and comes with the TouchWiz interface.
Samsung’s Second bada handset also makes an appearance
One of the biggest,handshaking phones handshaking phones, if not the biggest story to come out of IFA was the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The manufacturer finally made their highly anticipated tablet official last Thursday and based on first impressions,best tablet pc best tablet pc, it seems to have been worth the wait. The 7 inch Android 2.2 device is set for an October release with plenty of high-tech goodies on board including HD video recording at 1080p, video calling capabilities, 3 megapixel camera, GPS, access to the Android Market and is available as a 16GB and 32GB model. Official prices haven’t been announced yet, but most reports are indicating that the tab will cost in the region of $200 – $400 (£130 – £260).
