The Chanel handbag campaign star gave the fashion house some free publicity by toting around a lovely black Chanel purse at a recent event. Her outfit is a little low-key and lackluster, but a great Chanel bag compensates for that.

Burberry has come a long way from its classic check print, baby. Just check out this Avelene Small Leather Clutch, a smart and sophisticated dark brown leather purse that would work for day or night. The clutch feels modern, but nods to its pedigree via an embossed detail and a frayed tassel detail made from that iconic check material. Clever, huh? Available at Net-a-Porter for $375.

Ashlee Simpson Wentz has been on a bit of a whirlwind lately. First came marriage, designer replica handbags, then came baby, and now comes “Melrose Place.” The star of the new CW reboot suited up in a bold striped blazer and her trusty black Balenciaga handbag. Same old show, same old purse, but hey, what’s not to love?

Ah, young love. “Gossip Girl” co-stars and real-life couple Blake Lively and Penn Badgley booked some TLC time in New York City. But not content to pal around with one hot commodity, Blake doubled her fun by bringing her black Chanel purse along (smart girl!). The bag, the boy, the dress…it’s all so covetable. Must be nice!

Who’s gonna run this town tonight? All signs point to Rihanna, who was dressed to kill in army green, a white tank, layered necklaces, and a Zagliani Python Puffy purse. At $3K-plus, this handbag is super-luxe, but I think it’s worth every penny. It’s beautiful, it’s got an exotic edge, and it instantly glams up an outfit. Good choice, RiRi.

It’s not easy being green…unless you know, you’re a Valentino clutch. This gorgeous emerald green Valentino Satin Bow-Front Clutch may be a bit quirky-looking, but I think it would be a stunning evening bag, whether paired with a black or green cocktail dress. The bow’s multiple pleats add a striking detail, and the bold satin is just as luxe as it gets. Available at Net-a-Porter for $895.

Not only is Halle Berry mama to the cutest little baby girl ever, but she also has fabulous taste in designer handbags. The stunning Oscar winner looked lovely in her white and yellow sundress (Labor Day, Schmabor Day) and her beige Bulgari handbag. The purse looks high-end (and it is) but is versatile enough for everyday wear. Lookin’ good, girl.

Well, color me jealous. Alleged hubby-stealer LeAnn Rimes looked as though she didn’t have a care in the world as she rode the escalator with her pink Goyard tote in tow. I prefer the black and gray Goyard, but this pink version is pretty, feminine and fun. Now about that fugly fedora…

Proving that she’s not too busy for her fans, Penelope Cruz stopped to sign autographs at the Toronto airport. And what’s that hanging from her arm? Yep, looks like a deep red Prada handbag to me. It’s hard to see much of the purse with that leather jacket draped over it, but I do dig the red against Penelope’s gray top. A heart of gold and a keen eye for style? This gal has it made.

Tory Burch, whose flats bearing the signature double ‘T’ logo made her brand one of the most coveted (comfortable) shoes of recent years, presented her first showing at NY Fashion Week Wednesday. Opting for a more intimate, comfortable ‘party’ setting, sunglasses, she helmed the front of the stage, greeting guests, while models stood and posed together along the length of the runway. Her previous Bryant Park showing was as part of the Barbie 50th anniversary show.
The clothing was a mix of preppy and tribal prints. Some ladylike rock n’ roll was also evident. The style was comfortable, chic and upscale casual (think party next door in the Hamptons). I always think this is a great way to present a collection, especially in a smaller venue. Rather than a 20 second runway strut, each guest has a chance to get up close to the clothing to appreciate each detail. Models can respond, turn for better views and offer the amateur photographer the opportunity to take great photos. The designer has a chance to discuss and explain her inspiration, the work she put into the collection and answer questions.
Some of the handbags were leopard, to carry on the tribal theme. Details included chain handles, tie-dyed patterns, braided trim and studs. A couple of larger clutches were represented. Pouch bags with extra long skinny chain straps and oversized business bags were also on display. The big gold double ‘T’ logo was more discreet in this collection, allowing the pieces to speak for themselves.
