Birkenstock Shoes Women, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- The special U.S. envoy Richard Holbrooke is visiting Pakistan with a heavy agenda which mainly focuses on the war against terrorism in the region. On arriving Islamabad on Monday,
ed hardy Jeans, Holbrooke made it clear that he was "to listen and learn the ground realities of this critically important country" and report his findings to the U.S. administration which is reviewing its policies to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Analysts said Holbrooke's visit,
tiffany zubeh?r, the nature of which was defined as a fact-finding, has itself sent a strong signal to Pakistan. The Obama administration is shifting is focus from Iraq to Afghanistan and Pakistan, and it needs Pakistan to assure its commitment in this regard. Review of policies to Afghanistan and Pakistan The White House said on Tuesday that the United States President Barack Obama had ordered an inter-agency review to examine U.S. policy on Afghanistan and Pakistan ahead of a North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit in April. At a news conference on Monday, Obama warned that he won't allow safe havens for terrorists to exist in Pakistan's tribal areas bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan must be "stalwart" U.S. ally. "Our focus is shifting from Iraq to Afghanistan," the chairman of the U.S. joint chiefs of staff Admiral Mike Mullen said at a press conference in Kabul on Monday. Mullen said it had got worse in Afghanistan and violence was up there. He urged that more forces would be needed in Afghanistan to fight a spreading insurgency. While addressing a security conference in Munich last Saturday, the U.S. Vice President Joe Biden cautioned that the U.S. must strengthen its cooperation with the people and government of Pakistan as no strategy for Afghanistan could succeed without Islamabad. Observers pointed out that the new U.S. administration was shifting its focus of anti-terrorism to Afghanistan and would tighten its grip on Pakistan, which was pivotal for the U.S. strategy in Afghanistan. Pakistan on board At a news conference at the Pakistan's Foreign Office on Tuesday,
chemise ralph lauren homme, Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Holbrooke informed him that Obama administration had agreed to review policy to counter terrorism and extremism in the region after consultation with Pakistan. The two sides also agreed to constitute a joint team to exchange views to help the new U.S. administration to map out its future anti-terrorism strategy. Referring to the situation in Pakistan's northwestern tribal areas, Obama said on Monday that the U.S. would not allow Al Qaeda to operate and could not have those safe havens in that region. As the fore front of Pakistan's anti-terror war,
tory burch Heels, the tribal areas have always been a concern of the U.S.. Despite years of military operations, militants still have stronghold in the tribal areas bordering Afghanistan. Some U.S. officials have been accusing the tribal region from which attacks have been launched against the allied forces fighting Taliban in Afghanistan. Given the tension between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Mumbai attacks in November last year, the security forces which were engaged in operations against militants in tribal areas were put on alert and the offensive were suspended. Thus Taliban militants who felt no pressure from the security forces launched a string of attacks on the supply route of the Afghanistan-based U.S. and NATO forces, torching and destroying hundreds of trucks and containers carrying supplies. Reports said more than 70 percent of the supplies of allied forces in Afghanistan were transported through Pakistan and the route was under constant threat of militants in Pakistan. Qureshi hoped the new U.S. policy to fight extremism and extremism would be with consent and cooperation of Pakistan. Partnership centered on anti-terrorism Pakistan joined the U.S.-led anti-terror war after the 9.11 incident in 2001,

After years of fighting in the tribal areas, Islamabad has come to the conclusion that only military operation will not eliminate terrorism. Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said at the security conference in Munich last week that terrorism should be dealt with through a comprehensive strategy comprising dialogue, development and deterrence. He said deterrence was the last option, which, in analysts' eyes, Washington will not agree with. Obama gave the order to conduct two missile attacks in Pakistan' s tribal region on Jan. 23, three days after he was sworn in as the new President. Obama's move was justified by his presidential debate when he was still a candidate. He said that the U.S. should take action in Pakistan's tribal areas if Pakistan was unwilling or unable to do that. Analysts here said that the cross-border missile strikes were conveying the message that the U.S. administration thought Pakistan was not doing enough to control the situation. It is likely that the new U.S. administration will highlight the performance of Pakistan in the war against terror in the future. According to a pending bill called Enhanced Partnership with Pakistan Act of 2008, the U.S. will allocate 7.5 billion U.S. dollars in social and economic aid to Pakistan over a 5-year period starting from 2009. It merits mentioning that the bill will link the assistance to Pakistan's performance in fighting against terrorism.Topics related articles:
