Recently we asked about the designer behind the snakeskin purse that Jessica Simpson was carrying around 24/7. People.com has the answer: Jessica Simpson herself! The purse is the Pacha Bucket Purse in Python from her eponymous handbag line. Though I’ve been less than impressed with the offerings from Jessica’s line, I dig this big and bold number. Dior St. Tropez Tote November 25th, 2007

For me, nylon will never pack the same punch as leather or satin. Still, this Dior St. Tropez Tote (made with shiny nylon, and available in black or fuschia) does an excellent job of looking glam and luxe considering its (in my opinion) second-rate fabric. That’s probably due to the shiny sheen and the quilted detail, although a hanging silver Dior “D” logo charm doesn’t hurt either. This is a handbag I’d want to take on vacation, as the size is perfect as a carry-on travel bag or as a beach bag – just throw in some magazines, sunblock, and a towel and you’re good to go. $1,300 at Bergdorfgoodman.com

Fendi Grande B. Mix Purse November 25th, 2007

I’ve been pretty unimpressed with Fendi‘s latest handbags, which just seem to get funkier and uglier with each go-round (I totally miss the Spy and the B Bag). Which is why I’m kind of shocked to actually like this Fendi Grande B. Mix Tote. Granted, the bold turquoise fabric trimmed in a tobacco-hued zucca print isn’t exactly versatile enough for most outfits (unless you’re a Smurf), but it is cheerful and fun. I also like the contrast of the colors, as well as the bag’s roomy size. A great casual tote that still packs a designer punch. $1,100 at Bergdorfgoodman.com

The combination of heavily ruched and patent leather can really be a bit much, as Prada so ably proves with its Vernice Gaufrean East West Handbag. It’s a nice idea – and the result should have been something so unbelievably chic that it would leave fashionistas pining for it – but this attempt isn’t executed very well.
