Vehicle Diagnostic Tips That Can Save You Money-3

Sometimes on high end vehicles, its not that easy. Mercedes, BMW, Audi, etc. batteries may be in the trunk of the vehicle where the spare tire would be, or under the passenger seats.
Where to locate your battery:
Audi/VW will have them in the center of the cowl (the area below windshield wiper arms) and look for the and - symbols on the plastic cover.
Mercedes will have them in the hood or trunk.
BMW will have them in the hood area or trunk.
Dodge will sometimes hide them in the trunk as well or under either of the front wheel wells.
Chevy also hides them in the trunk. Cobalt, HHR, new cars.
*These are just some examples of where might batteries can be in some vehicles. If battery is not under the hood, there will be a "jump" terminal. This is so you can "jump-start" your vehicle without directly accessing the battery. Usually there will be clearly marked, red caps covering the terminal. I highly recommend that you contact your dealer and have them fix it. As the system has high voltage(in orange). You never know when you might need them. The solenoid will sometimes seize up and all you will here is clicking noise. If it's a situation where you need to get somewhere, you could try tapping the starter with a hammer or a rod and a hammer while cranking the vehicle over at the same time. Mostly under the hood in the front right or front left of the engine compartment. Sometimes in the corner of the firewall. Also some vehicles will require some fine number tuning within the stereo. For example: Replacement of a battery on a Acura with navigation system, you will be required to enter the "satnav" code (satellite and navigation). This code will be in the front page of one of your owners manual in big bold numbers. Same goes for the other vehicles with navigation.
Honda with basic stereo if battery replacement has been done, you will also have to type in the 5 digit code into the stereo. Code will be in the glove box, sometimes labeled as stereo code.
High end vehicles such as Mercedes will have a separate battery for the auxiliary, (inside extras, stereo, navigation , windows, airbags) if for some reason nothing is working on the inside, chances are that auxiliary battery is dead. That will be located right behind the right front strut tower in the engine compartment.
Now in this age, there are many different keys for every make and model. Key FOB's, inside is a technology that basic garage doors use. On a multiple different frequency, FOB when activated, sends multiple signals to the vehicle's computer at once with only one code to unlock/lock the doors, or start the vehicle. When the tiny battery dies in that FOB, your buying a new FOB in most cases. Then it requires a reprogramming of the computer with the key in ignition, times the number of keys.
