Back in June I wrote about a Chinese “herbal” diet pill called Fruta Planta that probably, likely, oh definitely contained a weight loss drug called sibutramine.
That drug was fruta planta pulled by the FDA back in October because it put people at risk for serious heart problems.
After receiving, “multiple reports of adverse events associated with the use of Fruta Planta and Reduce Weight Fruta Planta, including several cardiac events and one death,” it seems the FDA finally got around to testing the pills and what did they find:
The FDA lab analysist of the dietary reduce weight fruta planta supplements found the Authentic Formula Fruta Planta to contain 15.4 mg of Sibutramine.
The recall seems fruta planta diet pills a little too late given the fact they’ve had Fruta Planta on a lengthy list of herbal supplements that likely contained the illegal and dangerous substance since 2008.
This isn’t simply a case of people unknowingly ingesting a dangerous substance.fruta planta pills Many users bought the pill hoping pastillas fruta planta that it contained sibutramine. If you look at conversations on communities like We Have Diet Pill Fever, you’ll see members asking how to make sure they got the “real stuff” that would help them lose weight aka sibutramine. This was case of people trying to score what they couldn’t get prescribed.
The FDA knew this pill was likely dangerous but did nothing until someone died. The reality is that their recall will do little to protect people given that there are dozens of tainted pills available for purchase but sold under different names like Super Slim Pomegranate that the FDA is more than aware of.
Clearly there are those who know what’s in these pills and are willing to take the risk, but continued distribution of other pills simply highlights how ineffective the FDA really is.
