China on Thursday congratulated Margaret Chan for her successful reelection as the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hong Lei passed on the message at a regular press conference and said China appreciated the WHO and its members for their trust and support of the Chinese candidate.
The World Health Assembly (WHA) on Wednesday afternoon appointed Margaret Chan as the Director-General of the WHO for a second term from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2017.
Hong said China believes Chan will continue to cooperate closely with all the countries and lead the WHO to play an even more important and active role in global public health affairs.
Hong said in her first term office over the past more than five years wholesale ray bans, Chan has done an excellent job in the areas of diseases control and public health by successfully addressing public health emergencies such as the outbreak of the H1N1 flu epidemic.
Hong said Chan has effectively lifted the WHO's leadership and standards of management. She has made active efforts to realize public health-related Millennium Goals of the United Nations.
