NEW YORK, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- A new world record has been set for the purchase price of original paintings of cigar-chomping dogs playing poker

Two of the 1903 paintings by artist Cassius Coolidge went on the block in New York Tuesday, with auctioneers expecting bidding to top out at $50,000.
But bidding at the Doyle New York auction house was fierce
Ugg sale, and an anonymous collector won out with a bid nearly 12 times higher than the estimate -- $590

Alan Fausel, Doyle's director of paintings who also does appraisals for "Antiques Road Show" on PBS, said the works
