UNITED NATIONS, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has estimated that a large number of children are suffering from severe malnutrition in Yemen, a UN spokesman told reporters here on Wednesday.
"An estimated 967,000 children under five are suffering from acute malnutrition," UN spokesman Martin Nesirky said during a daily news briefing.
In response to the crisis wholesale oakley sunglasses, aid organizations in the country are asking for nearly 40 million U.S. dollars to help the more than 267,000 children who are at risk of dying if proper treatment isn' t administered.
After a two-day visit in April to the region of Sana'a, the UN' s deputy emergency relief coordinator, Catherine Bragg, called on the international community to assist the millions of people in Yemen that were facing deteriorating humanitarian conditions, saying that "millions of vulnerable people need help with health care, clean water and basic sanitation, food and nutrition."
Meanwhile, children in Yemen also face the threats of unexploded ordnance and land mines. According to reports, the first three months of 2012 witnessed 13 children killed and another 12 injured in related incidents.
