NEW YORK , April 24 (UPI) -- A Long Island , N.Y., man wounded a puppy by throwing it up in the air and out into the street after a spat with the dog's owner , police say. Neighbors and police allege when Jaime Sanchez , 56, saw his neighbor from across the street, Barbara Bottiglieri, 54 , walking by about 2:15 p.m. Saturday with her dachshund , Coco, he allegedly warned her not to let the puppy do his business on his lawn or he would sic his 50-pound mutt on them both , the New York Daily News reported. Bottiglieri threatened to call police. Sanchez allegedly walked up to the woman , grabbed the dog's leash and flung the dachshund 6 feet in the air and 10 feet into the street, police said. The abuse caused the puppy's stitches from a recent spaying to be ruptured and her tail also was injured. Police arrested Sanchez and charged him with torturing an animal and reckless endangerment to property. "I'm horrified by it ," said a neighbor.
