ST. LOUIS > Woman dies from crash injuries • A 21-year-old Fenton woman died Thursday afternoon at Barnes-Jewish Hospital from injuries she sustained Sept. 9 in a scooter accident. Meg Herndon suffered a severe brain injury when the scooter she was riding was hit by a truck in Cape Girardeau. Herndon was a senior at Southeast Missouri State University. The driver of the truck birkin bags, Steven Minner of Morley, Mo., has since been cited for failure to yield and for not wearing a seat belt. Herndon’s death was announced by the university Thursday afternoon and on a website that Herndon’s family was posting on. Herndon was a player on the university’s soccer team who was studying nursing.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY > Woman reports rape • St. Louis County police said a woman, 18, was the victim of what Lt. Tom Larkin described as an “extremely rare” rape by a random stranger on Wednesday night. She told police she was walking home from a friend’s house about 9: 30 p. m. near Fee Fee and Bennington roads when a man grabbed her from behind and forced her to a grassy area about 20 feet off the sidewalk. She went home before a friend took her to the Central County Precinct about 11: 45 p. m. She was sent to a hospital for treatment. Police said the only similar crime in the area to come to mind was a stranger rape of a 27-year-old woman about 1: 45 a. m. April 4, 2011, in her apartment in the 10300 block of Sannois Drive. MADISON COUNTY > Driver killed in crash • Thomas L. Gusewelle hermes outlet, 42, was killed in a single-vehicle crash about 1: 18 a. m. Thursday in Omphghent Township. Officials said Gusewelle, 42, of the 9100 block of Lakewood Drive in Staunton, was alone, heading east on Renken Road near Dustman Road, when his 2008 Buick Lucerne went down an embankment and overturned. He was pronounced dead at 2: 15 a. m. Gusewelle was wearing a seat belt, officials said, but suffered head and neck trauma. Toxicology tests were pending.

ALTON > Alderman charged with DUI • Alton Alderman Myles C. “Mick” McCahill, 42, was ticketed Monday night for allegedly driving under the influence, failure to signal and making a lane violation, Police Chief David Hayes said Thursday. McCahill, of the 600 block of Langdon Street, was pulled over by police at Sixth Street and Langdon just after 11 p. m. as he headed home from a tavern where he works. An officer noticed he was impaired, Hayes said, and McCahill failed a field sobriety test. McCahill has been an alderman since 2009. McCahill declined comment Thursday. CLAYTON > Man accused of piggy bank theft • Baron Calmese Jr., 29, has been charged with stealing for allegedly taking more than $500 from his 4-year-old nephew’s piggy bank to buy sex and drugs. Calmese, of the 12100 block of Aragon Avenue, was staying with his sister along the 11100 block of Estrada Drive when he asked her if he could borrow some quarters at about 5 p. m. July 26, according to court documents. She gave permission to take $2 in quarters from her son’s piggy bank, the documents say, but instead he took all of the money. When police asked him what he did with the cash, he told St. Louis County officers, “Man, I bought (sex) and some heroin. ” He was held in lieu of $7, 500 bail.

ST. LOUIS > Bank robbery suspect caught • Police arrested a suspect shortly after a man in a hard hat robbed the Commerce Bank at 6327 Chippewa Street about 1: 25 p. m. Thursday. The robber presented a note demanding money and suggested he had a weapon, officials said. Police arrested a suspect, 46, at Union and Lindell boulevards and planned to seek charges today.

ST. LOUIS > Fake purses lead to prison • A woman was sentenced in federal court here Thursday to 57 months in prison for selling more than $500, 000 in counterfeit high-end purses online in 2010-11, prosecutors said. Jeannine Buford,Beats By Dre Sale designed so fashion and people more buy it34, of St. Louis, and another woman, Danielle Burnett-Famous, bought the fake bags from China and sold them through websites to what the FBI said was more than 100 people. A complaint in 2011 from the buyer who paid $15, 800 for what turned out to be a fake Hermés Birkin bag led to an FBI sting that snared Buford picking up a $6, 800 check for a fake black Birkin in her Porsche Cayenne. She pleaded guilty June 12 of trafficking in counterfeit goods. Burnett-Famous, 29, was fatally shot last year in an unrelated incident.
