DENVER, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- A federal judge has dismissed JonBenét Ramsey's family's libel and defamation case against Fox News Network
, the Denver Post reported Saturday.
The Ramsey family claimed a December 2002 segment by Fox News reporter Carol McKinley implied they were involved in the December
, 1996, killing of 6-year-old JonBenét.
U.S. District Judge Phillip Figa wrote in an order dated Thursday that the broadcast did not defame the parents or brother of JonBenét.
"We're thrilled," said Dori Ann Hanswirth, Fox News' lawyer. "It's a great day for the First Amendment."
Lin Wood, the Atlanta lawyer representing the Ramseys, said he and his clients were contemplating an appeal. However
, he said the family will first consider whether an appeal would interfere with the criminal investigation.
"There is no lawsuit so important they would let it interfere with the criminal investigation," Wood said.Related Topics Articles:
