JAKARTA, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said on Wednesday that government has allocated 150 trillion rupiah (about 16.9 billion US dollars) to finance the procurement of new military equipments for 2009 2014 period, local media reported.Speaking on the sidelines of document signing that commences the production cooperation between Indonesian plane maker PT Dirgantara Indonesia and Airbus Military in PTDI plant in West Java's capital city of Bandung, Purnomo said that the allocation was intended to finance new military equipment procurements and maintenance works."The calculation on the allocated budget was based on the improving macro economy condition and balanced budget principle in drafting the budget," the minister said.The amount of allocation was increased 50 percent from the initial allocation that was set at 100 trillion rupiah, the largest news portal detik.com reported.According to the minister, the improving military might is essential to preserve the country's sovereignty and from being breached by other countries and to make the country capable in dealing with various challenges that could persist in the future."By the end of the current administration's service period, the TNI's might would significantly reach a new level.
