Both Diane Kruger and Sienna Miller smartly kept their color palettes neutral when wearing their harem pants (I think a pair in purple or bright turquoise would nosedive straight into costume territory--and we're talking 8th grade production of "Arabian Nights" here)

I think the key with rocking these is making everything else you're wearing look absolutely modern--avoid oodles of gold bangles, colorful silks, or a funky hair accessory that would remind people too much of Princess Jasmine.
