(Note: 1,2-difluoroethane: HFC-152)
Preparation
HFC-152a (Difluoroethane) can be made by the following reaction under mercury-based catalyst: HC≡CH + 2HF → CH3CHF2
Application
1) HFC-152a (Difluoroethane) is used as electronic cleaning solvent
2) Used as consumer aerosol propellant, especially those subject to stringent VOC requirements, alternative for CFC-12
3) Used as a component of azeotopic blend refrigerant such as R-401a (with 13% HFC-152a), R-401b (with 11% HFC-152a), R-401C (with 15% HFC-152a) and R-411a (with 11% HFC-152a) and R-411b (with 3% HFC-152a)
