The California ballot next month includes an initiative known as Proposition 19 that would legalize pot

Proposition 19 would make it legally permissible for anyone in California age 21 and older to possess as much as an ounce of marijuana and to grow as much as 25 square feet of pot plants. It would also authorize local governments to sanction the cultivation and sale of pot.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca held a news conference Friday to publicize Holder's letter
