A former Rancho Cucamonga city councilman, convicted of grand theft and corruption related to his job at the San Bernardino County assessor’s office, was sentenced Wednesday to two years and eight months in prison.
Rex Gutierrez was forced to resign from the City Council after a jury in October convicted him of two counts of grand theft, one count of filing a false claim with the county and one count of conspiracy to commit a crime

The charges stemmed from Gutierrez's work for former Assessor Bill Postmus, who is also facing criminal charges

Gutierrez was Postmus’ government relations advisor for 22 months but in reality spent his time doing political favors for Postmus, including helping the assessor’s political and financial supporters in the Rancho Cucamonga area

“It was essentially a sham job," said Goritz, who prosecuted Gutierrez.
