KAZAN, Russia, April 8 (UPI) -- A dozen alleged drug smugglers are going on trial in Tatarstan, Interfax news agency reported Friday.
The Supreme Court of Kazan, the capital of the autonomous republic within the Russian Federation, has begun jury selection for the trial. The defendants include six residents of Tatarstan and six citizens of the Central Asian former Soviet republic of Kyrgyzstan.

cheap nike free, is the suspected leader of the drug ring, Interfax said. Two of the defendants are women.
The drug syndicate allegedly brought heroin from Afghanistan to Tajikistan and then shipped it to the Kyrgyz town of Osh. It was taken from there to Kazan either by car via Chelyabinsk, Orenburg and Samara, or by rail through Yekaterinburg, police investigators told the news agency.
Most of the alleged drug couriers were elderly people or women. Police say that one courier hid the contraband in loaves of bread. The drug syndicate allegedly laundered some of its proceeds through a chain of cafes and gas stations
