CHANGSHU wholesale ray ban, Jiangsu Province, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Six-time World League Super Final champions USA overcame a sluggish start to beat world championship runners-up China 10-6 on the opening day of the 2012 FINA Women's Water Polo World League Super Final here on Tuesday.
The hosts won all the sprints in the four quarters and led 5-3 after the first half before the USA found out the winning pace with effective defense to take the last two quarters 4-1, 3-0.
"It is always very hard to play the first game in any meet. Our players were very nervous at the beginning, but as long as they settled down, they played much better," said Adam Krikorian, head coach of USA.
China's head coach Juan Jane Giralt blamed their defeat on too many mistakes in the second half.
"We only performed well for the first two quarters, then we were in a mess, especially in the defence. I don't think it is a problem of strength. It is a problem of the way of thinking and playing the ball game," said the Spaniard.
In other three group matches on Tuesday, Russia dominated Italy 16-3 (7-1, 3-1, 2-0, 4-1); reigning world champions Greece beat Germany 16-11 (4-3, 4-3, 5-2, 3-3), Australia crushed Canada 20-4 (7-3, 4-0, 5-1, 4-0).
On Wednesday, USA will meet Greece, China play Germany wholesale ray bans, Italy challenge Australia and Russia face Canada.
The FINA World League Super Final will come to an end on June 3, with the overall winners receiving 50,000 U.S. dollars in prize money.
