BEIJING, Mar. 30 -- In this water-hungry capital city, it is unusual for a massive water-saving project to cause a lot of controversy. But such is the case this time around. A multi-million dollar scheme in Yuan Ming Yuan park (the Old Summer Palace), has led to an outcry from experts and residents alike who are worried about Beijing's water supply. The park is in the process of covering its lake bed - about 2000 mu (133 hectares) - with impermeable membrane. Critics say this will damage Beijing's underground water supply.
