Choosing a Topic for the Dissertation

The dissertation can really be difficult do. It is a challenging process that involves a lot of reading, writing, and analysis. But when you have finished the entire dissertation or research document, you will discover that the efforts you have spent on it are all worth it. Meanwhile, here are some techniques for you on selecting and analyzing a topic for your dissertation:

Just Enough. The trick to make your topic manageable enough for you to work on is to choose a topic that’s not too broad or too specific. However, you also have to look into how many words or pages you are supposed to come up with. Remember that some topics may seem too short for a dissertation, but could actually be the right length for a research paper or an academic paper.

Interest. Choose a topic that you are already interested in or that you can be interested in after months. Most students make the mistake of choosing a topic that they are just interested in for a moment. However, once they are overwhelmed with the amount of published journal articles they read about it, they already feel tired and exhausted. Remember to choose a dissertation topic which you are genuinely interested in or something that you can be interested in for a long time.

Investigation. Remember that you are making a masters dissertation and you are going to conduct the research and experiment. This should tell you that you are supposed to come up with a set of conclusions for the experiment. You should already have an idea of the kind of data you are going to analyze and write about in the succeeding chapters of your dissertation so you can also have an idea of what kind of treatment and theory you are going to use for the topic.
