Combining a chic design with fabulous colors and a businesslike functionality, the bag is somehow as sleek as it is roomy, maybe due to its quiet, low-key exterior and general timelessness. It won’t hold a laptop (unless you’re toting one of those fancy-schmancy little ones around), but it will hold more files, folders and office paraphernalia than you’ll ever really need to carry – plus all of your everyday essentials. Available for $1100 at eluxury.com.

Roberto Cavalli’s Milan ready-to-wear runway collection had a slight safari influence to it; and the handbags followed suit by boasting natural colors and long utilitarian shoulder straps that crossed over the body. Cavalli also showed hints of animal skin and artistic little handheld clutches with gathered, textured leather in shades of black, green, and red. I especially liked the rich chestnut brown tote one model carried; it was exquisitely made but completely versatile.

Demi Moore’s never seen without her can of Red Bull, Sienna Miller always seems to have a silly vest on, and Mischa Barton can’t seem to leave the house without this black and gold beaded Chanel bag. I don’t blame her – the gold double C logo makes it an instant classic, and I love the gold chain strap. Plus, designer replica handbags, black goes with everything, as these pictures of Mischa and her favorite accessory prove. Now if the girl could just learn to use the strap instead of holding the bag like a textbook.

Is it hot in here or is it just these Dolce & Gabbana handbags? For their Milan ready-to-wear show Dolce & Gabbana did what they do best – upped the sex factor – and delivered wild and totally luxe handbags that are sure to set fashionistas drooling. When the models weren’t wielding whips, they carried large – and I mean large – bags of animal print and animal skin. The bags were similar in tone to the ones shown at the D&G show, but somehow sexier and less kitschy – here vibrant patent leather was replaced by seductive black crocodile. The bags uniformly featured double leather handles and details like matching trim and front pockets. Two highlights were a slick lipstick-red patent leather bag that conjured all sorts of erotic connotations and a jaw-droppingly luxe gold crocodile bag that resembled a Siamese twin by appearing to be two bags fused at the center. Silver metallic leather also played a role, making the handbags some of the season’s most luxurious and covetable.

Compact and utterly chic, the Marni Double Handle Purse is a fantastic example of style and substance. Teaming patent leather, distressed lambskin and polished calfskin together, the purse is classy and modest. I love the coffee, ivory and tan color combination, which is uncommon but works so well. I’ve had enough of black and white (I say this as it takes center stage this spring, but oh well), and this mix works well as a sophisticated neutral. It looks great with everything from jeans and a simple top to a suit. Available for $981 at marni.com.

Chanel Clutch” id=”image5719″ src=” />
How do you rescue a frumpy, shapeless dress? If you’re Natalie Portman, you carry a beautiful Chanel clutch with you. The petite patterned black clutch boasts a gold frame and a chic chain strap, and added a dose of high-fashion sophistication to an otherwise matronly outfit. If only Natalie could pick out clothes that looked half as gorgeous as her handbags!

Hogan knows best! This Patent Leather Tote is a refreshing, clean choice for summer thanks to its gleaming white patent leather. It’s sparse on details – just two buckled straps running down each side – which lets the tall leather purse shine. The height makes this a great functional everyday tote, and it doesn’t hurt that the minimal look is pretty darn stylish.

Are you sick of to-die-for white leather bags yet? Add one more to the list of fresh purses with panache. The Burberry Sutton Hobo is all class and sophistication, showing off a glam white exterior and keeping that classic check print safely hidden on the inside (you didn’t think they’d leave it out, did you?). A belt with a sharp silver turn-lock buckle adds subtle detail to a bag that really doesn’t need much else. Simple, smart and, yep, a little bit safe, this is one bag you definitely can’t go wrong with. Available for $710 at nordstrom.com.

Take it from Wesley Snipes: Always bet on black. At least that’s what Elie Saab did for its latest Paris ready-to-wear show, where a stunning array of black bags strutted down the runway. Saab proved that you don’t necessarily need bold colors to liven up a handbag. Instead, the bags utitlized hip and modern touches like patent leather, textured leather, weaving, and shimmery material that made everything ooze sex. From tiny satin clutches to large frame bags with dominatix-like leather handles, the Elie Saab bags were in my opinion one of the highlights of the Paris collections (and the gowns were gorgeous too!).

You probably couldn’t get much brighter, louder or more noticeable than this. Kate Spade offers up an unexpectedly colorful hue in the Kate Spade Pasadena Julia Tote, a large satchel that’s as slick as a raincoat. With a glassy patent calfskin exterior and an unusual shape, it’s a fresh take on the common tote bag. It’s available in the vivid pumpkin seen here, as well as much more practical black and white shades. Top grain vachetta cowhide trims the bag, and subtle buckle details flank both sides. If you’ve been longing for a classic with a twist, look no further than this. Available for $645 at katespade.com.
