NEW YORK, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Bloomberg L.P., the financial news and data giant, has been sued over an alleged pattern of discrimination against female employees who took maternity leaves.
The federal lawsuit by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, filed Thursday in New York, charged that the company, founded by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, had demoted female employees and cut their pay after they disclosed they were pregnant, The New York Times reported.
In some cases, the suit said,
Women's Ugg Boots Clearance, managers questioned the women’s ability to carry out their work because of their family responsibilities. The suit named three high-level female employees as plaintiffs but said it included a “class of female employees affected by such unlawful practices.”
Bloomberg, who no longer is involved in the company’s day-to-day operation, told the Financial Times he had no comment, “nothing whatsoever. I haven’t worked there in an awful long time.”
Fallout from the suit, however, could hurt the political aspirations of the mayor, often mentioned as a possible presidential candidate,
