BELIZE CITY, Belize, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- A Belize man has confessed to attempting to rape a New York City woman and choking her when she resisted, Belize police say.
"It's a strong case," said Michael Reid, a spokesman for the Belize police force.
Reid said Agripo Ical followed Julia Minard out of a bar in a small village and allegedly tried to rape her
, the New York Daily News reported Sunday.
"He said he wasn't successful with that," Reid said.
She struggled and her screams brought local residents running out of their homes alerting police, who caught Ical shortly afterwards.
Ical has given a full written statement, witnessed by a justice of the peace
, said Reid.
Minard, a native of New York City
