??DHAKA , Aug. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The Bangladeshi government Thursday decided to seek help from International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to investigate the Aug. 21 grenade attackon opposition leader Sheikh Hasina's rally here , which killed 20people and injured some 300. This was disclosed by Foreign Minister M. Morshed Khan Thursday after a meeting with European Union's envoys stationed in Dhaka , reported the private news agency United News of Bangladesh. The minister said the Home Ministry and the one-member judicial commission would set the terms of reference for the Interpol operation to break the main opposition Awami League's rally-bombing case. Khan noted the government is very serious to find out the perpetrators and their motives behind the unfortunate attack on apolitical rally to undermine democratic process in Bangladesh. He said it is a clear attack on 130 million people of the country and an attack on democracy, and stressed the government wants to trace out the culprits and bring them to justice. The government does not rule out any possibilities as to whether underground outfits , religious extremists or internal or external forces carried out the attack , said the minister. He was quoted as saying , "We want to be very transparent into the investigation to unveil by whom, how and why this attack was launched on a political party rally where the leader of the opposition was there -- it is unexpected." Khan further pointed out those who believe in politics of ballot cannot be involved in such cowardice and heinous act. The attack was carried out, perhaps, by those who want to weaken Bangladesh's economy and cannot tolerate its image as a role model of moderate Muslim democracy, he added. As to a rough figure of the killing of 135 people in bomb and grenade attacks in the last decade , he said it is true that the intensity of the incident has increased and that the government wants to put an end to it. The government has already doubled the personal security of Awami League chief and former prime minister Hasina, as well as the security around her residence , said Khan , adding the government also enhanced its vigilance across the country as a preventive measure to avert any such attack in future.
