PENSACOLA
Monster iBeats, Fla., April 18 (UPI) -- Florida and the Navy officials are trying to figure out how to protect residents from a retired aircraft carrier parked at the Port of Pensacola.
One of the fears is the USS Oriskany could be ripped from its moorings by a hurricane's storm surge and deposited in a populated area
Beats By Dr. Dre Solo, the Pensacola News Journal reported Monday.
But the most realistic concern is the damage to the slip where it is located.
The Oriskany is scheduled to be sunk 22 miles off shore and become the world's largest artificial reef. Plans to sink it before the hurricane season begins June 1 were delayed when the man in charge of reviewing the environmental impact of the artificial reef died in January.
Solutions could be to pump water in and sink the ship, and then pump the water our again after the hurricane season. The chains mooring the ship could be strengthened
Mens Timberland Boots, or the ship could be moved out to sea, Navy officials said.
A decision is expected next week.
