SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, May 30 (Xinhua) -- At least seven paramilitary troopers of India's Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were injured Wednesday in a militant attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The attack was carried out Wednesday morning in Srinagar city replica ray ban, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"Militants fired on a CRPF vehicle this morning near Khanyar locality wounding seven personnel," said Sudhir Kumar, spokesman of CRPF in Srinagar. "All the wounded men were immediately hospitalized and are stated to be stable."

Eyewitnesses said militants on a motorcycle appeared on the road near Khanyar locality and fired on CRPF men. They fled from the spot soon after carrying out the attack.

"We have reports three militants carried out the attack on our vehicle," Kumar said.

No civilian was wounded in the attack. However, the shootout created panic in the Srinagar city. Police has sounded an alert in the city.

A militant outfit Islamic Front has claimed responsibility of the attack. The spokesman of the outfit called a local newspaper office to claim the responsibility.

A guerrilla war is going on between militants and the Indian troops stationed in the region since 1989. The gunfight between militants and Indian army troopers in Indian-controlled Kashmir takes place intermittently.
